Self-catering rural holiday gîte accommodation in Périgord Blanc, Dordogne

Introduction

Gîte Lau Pito Meizou is a cosy, self-catering, rural holiday gîte, providing lovely relaxing holiday accommodation for up to five people (double bedroom, twin bedroom and a travel cot). The gîte is centrally and ideally located in Dordogne, in the picturesque Périgord Blanc countryside (you can read more about Périgord Blanc here), giving easy access into Périgueux and the top tourist attractions in Dordogne. The gîte features an exclusive, secluded and secure swimming pool, with pool barrier and child safety entry gate. A shaded terrace and BBQ for dining ‘al fresco’, its own private fenced in garden and convenient parking beside the gîte.

The gîte has been constructed in the typical Périgordian style and has been creatively converted from a former 17th century outbuilding. The gîte has been constructed with beautiful thick limestone walls, helping the gîte to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The roof has been finished with lovely complimentary terracotta tiles. The main entrance, at the front of the gîte, is provided via double patio doors. There is also an additional patio door to the side of the gîte, giving convenient access to the dining terrace outside. The main windows and doors all feature attractive, fully functioning wooden shutters, which also add character and charm the gîte.

The Gîte

The gîte features rustic, but yet very cosy, open plan living, dining and kitchen areas. There are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, a travel cot, complete with bedding is also available. The bathroom and toilette are conveniently separate.

The interior of the gîte retains its French country style, character and charm, with exposed limestone walls and original chunky oak beams. On the ground floor, the living, dining and kitchen areas all have been floored with lovely terracotta tiles. Upstairs, the bedrooms have all been floored with nice wooden floor boards, providing comfort and warmth.

The Gîtes Swimming Pool

You will enjoy private and exclusive use of the gîtes swimming pool and its facilities. Pool facilities include sun loungers and a lovely shaded seating area with coffee table and a large parasol. For safety-conscious parents, the swimming pool has been fully enclosed with a mixture of high panel fencing, swimming pool safety barriers and a child safety entry gate.

The swimming pool measures approximately 8m long x 4m wide. The pool has a depth of approximately 1.2m at the ‘shallow end’ and graduates to approximately 1.6m at the ‘deep end’, making the pool ideal for people of different heights, ages and differing levels of swimming abilities. For when the pool is not in use, there is a pool cover which helps to keep the heat in and the debris out.

For more detailed information and photographs please Visits the Gîtes Swimming Pool page.

The Gîtes Outside Areas

The outside areas include a secure and secluded swimming pool, shaded dining terrace, garden, convenient off-road parking beside the gîte and a handy laundry drying green.

The gîte features a shaded terrace area for dining al fresco, complete with dining table, seating for up to five people and a BBQ. The gîte has its own private garden and it is exclusively yours for the duration of your stay. It has been enclosed with high paneled fencing, providing you with safety and privacy. The Gîtes Location

Gîte Lau Pito Meizou is located in La Farge, situated beside the village of Saint-Antoine-d’Auberoche, in the picturesque countryside of Périgord Blanc - one of the four Périgord areas that made up the former Périgord province, now called the Dordogne department. The gîte also very closely borders with its neighbor, Périgord Noir, were most of the top tourist attraction and tourist activities can be found, including the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat, probably one of the nicest towns in Dordogne that we have visited (so far!).

Accessing Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne department, is quick and easy taking the main road D6089. Alternatively, you can take the beautiful scenic back roads, were you will pass through some lovely little Périgordian villages and it will only take you a few minutes longer. Additionally, by taking the back road route, you will conveniently arrive in Trélissac (a suburb of Périgueux), where you will find a large E.Leclerc hypermarché amongst a selection of other shops and restaurants, all with free convenient parking. For more information about shops and restaurants we have created a useful shops and restaurants page. Périgueux has many nice areas, especially the historic old city, where you will also find the imposing cathedral. There are also many lovely riverside paths to walk.

Staying local, there are plenty of local shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and amenities & facilities. The gîte is surrounded by lots of woodland areas, where there are many forest walks and cycle routes from which to explore this beautiful area.

What to See and Do

People all have different reasons for going on holiday. We have found that some guests come on holiday to Dordogne, and stay with us, simply to get away from the British weather! And as such prefer to spend most of the week soaking up the sun just reading, relaxing and enjoying the swimming pool. Other guests prefer a more full on ‘doing all sites’ based holiday. So what type of holiday and what you want to see and do is really quite subjective and a matter of personal preference.

However, we are currently working on a Things to See and Do page, which offers some suggestions and ideas for things that we have actually seen and done ourselves as a family and enjoyed as a day out. We have also created a Photo Gallery page. These are our personal photos of some of the nicer places and attractions that we have visited since living here. Please note that both the Things to See and Do and Photo Gallery pages are an ongoing work in progress and as such we will add more suggestions and more photos as time allows. For now we need to finish translating the website into French first!

Until we get more information added to the Things to See and Do and Photo Gallery pages, we have made some quite comprehensive lists for you to refer to. The first is a list of Tourist Attractions, many of which are within a 30 minutes drive. There is a useful menu, which breaks down the various attractions into categories. The second is a list of Tourist Activities, again many of which are within a 30 minutes drive. Like the Tourist Attractions page, there is a useful menu, which breaks down the various Activities into categories. For even more information, there are the various Tourist Information websites, many of which are in English and we have made a list of some of the better websites on the Links page.

If you don’t fancy venturing too far when you have just arrived, as previously mentioned, we have created a useful page which lists many of the local shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and amenities & facilities, which can be found in some of the villages and towns that surround us.

Meet and Greet Service

We take great pride in ensuring your holiday with us is as enjoyable and memorable as possible. Therefore we provide a brief Meet and Greet Service where we will:-

  • Introduce ourselves.
  • Handover the keys to the gîte.
  • Show you around the gîte, the swimming pool and the gîtes other outside areas.
  • Show you how to enter, open and close the swimming pool.
  • Show you how the various appliances work.
  • Suggest where to go for your food/drink supplies.
  • Suggest some beautiful places and attractions to visit.
  • Try to answer any questions that you might have.

Once you have unloaded, unpacked and settled in, we are normally always contactable for any queries that you might have. Please let us know straight away if there is a problem with anything. Please don’t be polite and tell us on the last day! As our guests, we are here to help you in anyway we can.

What next? ... Book Direct!

Unfortunately we do not yet have our own Availability Calendar Page or a Rates/Tariffs Page. It is taking a little time as we will need to create databases etc for this and also the News Blog (also coming soon). We are working on all of this!!! So in the meantime, please note that you can find all of that information over at TripAdvisor and then of course come back here and book direct with us ;-) We look forward to hearing from you very soon.
